Education Mission
The Prince Music Theater is a strong advocate for the creation of new musical theater works in America. In addition to promoting new works, we are committed to developing new audiences for the musical theater and to exposing young people to all facets of musical theater production. This is the aspect of the PMT mission on which the Education Program focuses directly. Through the various programs provided by Education, we give young people the opportunity to hone their skills as both writers and performers. In doing so, we strive to help young people to find their voices and to develop their abilities to shape their own destinies through the creative discipline and the collaborative process of the theatre arts. The work they do in these programs allows them to express their hopes and dreams and share with one another the ways in which they handle the challenges of their daily lives. In doing so they learn, not only about the world of musical theater, but also, and more importantly, they learn a great deal about themselves as individuals, as artists and creators and as fully participating members of a group process. At an age when they are trying to establish their individuality, collaborating is sometimes very difficult for young people. The results of their work here provide a very vivid example of the value of working together toward a goal and one that is not lost on them.
